Heading Home

The shuttle ride back was uneventful, mostly watching the Caye Caulker sign fade into the distance. That was really the end of the trip.

At the airport our Southwest flight had a mechanical problem. They told us we'd leave so late we'd miss the connection and spend the night in Houston. Cassie was not going to do that. She worked it hard, got someone at Southwest to confirm they'd cover a ticket on another airline since the failure was theirs, and we booked United.

The United agent who untangled it for us turned out to have the same last name as us. Gillett is a British and Scottish name, and Belize was settled by the British, so there's some shared ancestry somewhere. She told us there's a whole community of Gilletts around Crooked Tree. We're taking that as a reason to go back.

Customs and the flight home were quick and easy, which after the week we'd had felt like a small gift.
